Contact Scaffolding Hire Canberra

Send the suburb, how high the work is, what the scaffold is for and when you need it. A photo of the building from the street is a good start.

Call

02 6188 9670

Quickest option, especially if there is a date attached. Say the date on the call, and say whether the building is in the ACT or in Queanbeyan, because that decides which regulator and which council apply.

Or send the details

Fill this in and someone will come back to you. A photo of the building from the street, and one of the side or back where the scaffold needs to reach, answer most questions before they are asked.

What helps with a quote

  • The suburb or address. It tells the scaffolder whether the job is in the ACT or in Queanbeyan, how far the delivery is and whether the street has a wide verge or a narrow one.
  • How high the work is. The height of the platform where someone will stand, not just the number of storeys. Above 4 metres the scaffold must be erected by a licensed person. If you are not sure, say so and send a photo.
  • What the scaffold is for. Re-roofing, painting, gutters, eaves, a facade repair, a new build or access for another trade. It decides the type and the edge protection.
  • Where it will stand. On your block, or partly on the nature strip or footpath. Scaffolding or materials on public land is likely to need approval, and the Public Land Use Team asks for 14 working days before work starts.
  • Overhead lines. Any service line near the wall or the roof edge. Evoenergy's figure for metallic scaffold is 4 metres, and work inside that distance needs an accredited erector.
  • Access. A steep driveway, a side path, a locked gate or a fence the delivery has to get past.
  • Heritage. If you think the place may be on the ACT Heritage Register, say so. Ask before anything is fixed to it.
  • The date. A roofer's or painter's start, a settlement or a deadline, and how long the trade expects to take.

If it is urgent

A scaffold that has been damaged in a storm, or one that is leaning, missing guardrails or marked as incomplete, should not be used. If anyone is in danger, call 000. A fall from height is a notifiable incident and is reported to WorkSafe ACT on 13 22 81, or on 0419 120 028 after hours per WorkSafe ACT's 2023 alert. If a line is down or a scaffold has touched one, keep clear and call Evoenergy's emergency number, 13 10 93.

What this site cannot help with

Nobody here can approve the use of a nature strip, issue a licence, tell you over the phone whether your scaffold is under or over 4 metres, authorise work near an overhead line or say whether your block is heritage listed. For a licence question, contact Access Canberra's Construction and Workplace Licensing on 02 6207 8096 or cwpl@act.gov.au; for work health and safety, WorkSafe ACT is on 13 22 81. For public land, the Public Land Use Team is on 02 6205 8794. For the rules in full, see Access Canberra and WorkSafe ACT.

Questions

Common questions

How do I get a scaffolding quote in Canberra?

Call or use the form. Give the suburb, how high the work is, what the scaffold is for, and send a photo of the building from the street. A local licensed scaffolder comes back with a price range or a time to look, and the written quote follows from that.

Is the quote free?

Ask when you enquire whether the quote is free. Ask whether a site visit is charged separately, particularly for a job in Queanbeyan or on a larger block where the scaffolder has to travel, and ask what the quote covers before you agree to anything.

Do you need to visit before quoting?

A first price range can come from photos and a description. The number that goes on a written quote usually needs a look at the site, because the access, the slope, the nature strip and any overhead lines are not visible from a photo taken on the street.

What photos should I send?

The front of the building from the street, the side or back where the scaffold needs to reach, and anything near the wall such as a power line, a tree, a steep path or a fence. A photo that shows the eave height against a door or window helps the scaffolder judge the platform height.

Can you work to a start date?

Tell us the date at the start. The lead time for any nature strip approval is 14 working days before work starts per the Public Land Use Team, so a booking made late may need the scaffold to sit wholly on your own block. Say if a roofer or painter is booked.

I do not know whether the work is over 4 metres. What should I do?

Send a photo and say what the scaffold is for. The 4 metre line is about the fall from the platform or the structure, and the scaffolder decides from the site. If it is over, a licensed person must erect it. If it is under, a licence is generally not required.

Do you cover Queanbeyan and the towns outside Canberra?

Yes, Queanbeyan in New South Wales is covered, along with the ACT districts. The same licence classes and the 4 metre rule apply, with SafeWork NSW as the regulator and the council as the permit authority. For towns further out, ask when you enquire, because the pages here have not checked them one by one.

What if the scaffold needs to go on the footpath or nature strip?

Say so in the enquiry. Scaffolding or materials on a nature strip or footpath is likely to need approval through the Public Land Use Team, and a temporary traffic management plan may be needed. Ask who applies, what it costs and how long it takes, and get it in writing before the scaffold is booked.
